Armtec Defense Technologies (Armtec) is an operating unit of the Transdigm Group (NYSE: TDG), an industry leader in aerospace and defense products and services. Armtec is comprised of three business units producing subcomponents for ordnance in Coachella, CA; decoy countermeasure flares in Camden AR; and radar countermeasure chaff in Lillington NC. This position is staffed in Coachella, at Armtec’s world-class, sole-source production facility for felted fiber nitrocellulose combustible cartridge cases for medium and large caliber military ammunition; and pyrophoric payloads for training grenades.

Job Summary
The Engineering Project Manager leads cross-functional engineering initiatives that deliver reliable performance, cost efficiency, and innovation. This role combines technical depth, systems thinking, and leadership agility to translate complex requirements into executable plans that meet business, regulatory, and customer objectives.

Core Capabilities

  • Strategic Alignment: Connects engineering priorities to company goals, ensuring technical solutions drive measurable business results.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Directs multidisciplinary teams—engineers, vendors, and support functions—through project lifecycles from concept to production.
  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Uses data, modeling, and simulation to evaluate risks, validate designs, and improve processes.
  • Innovation: Integrates emerging technologies and modern tools (e.g., prototyping, 3D printing) to accelerate learning and enhance quality.
  • Execution Discipline: Develops and manages schedules, budgets, and resources using professional planning tools (MS Project or equivalent).
  • Risk & Change Control: Applies structured risk management and change processes to maintain safety, compliance, and performance.
  • Technical Excellence: Reviews and validates drawings, materials, and specifications with applied knowledge of physics, chemistry, and materials science.
  • Team Development: Coaches engineers in project management and problem-solving best practices, promoting standardized execution and accountability.
  • Integrity & Professionalism: Models ethical leadership, sound judgment, and composure under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Business (required); MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of engineering or project management experience, ideally in defense, aerospace, or manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and financial skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government.
  • PMP or CQE certification preferred (or willingness to pursue within 24 months).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project or Project Server environment.

Work Hours & Travel

  • 4X10 work week with occasional overtime on Fridays or weekends as necessary, to meet program objectives.
  • Up to 20% mostly US travel is required, normally a few multi-day trips per quarter.
