Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Nurse Manager – NICU Level III for a hospital in Palm Springs, CA. This role carries 24/7 accountability for the operations and quality of nursing care within a 30-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU Nurse Manager will provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to clinical staff while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, family-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision to clinical and ancillary staff within the NICU.
• Mentor and oversee Clinical Managers and Resource Nurses.
• Manage department staffing and scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and patient acuity alignment.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (Title 22, TJC, CDPH, CCS).
• Collaborate with the Nursing Director and Clinical Educator to maintain required policies and procedures.
• Conduct family rounding following admissions and address patient/family concerns to support satisfaction.
• Oversee productivity, statistical data, and department reporting each pay period.
• Manage supply chain processes including equipment requests, supply orders, and contracts.
• Conduct performance evaluations, maintain employee records, and ensure all licenses/certifications are current.
• Investigate incidents, document findings, and develop corrective action plans.
• Facilitate staff recognition, meetings, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Represent the NICU in hospital committees and meetings as needed.
• Provide direct patient care, assist in procedures, and respond to emergencies when necessary.
• Partner with the NICU Medical Director and Nursing Director on departmental initiatives and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum 5 years of NICU nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current California RN license.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – in progress considered with defined completion timeline.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• National Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing certification (NCC or equivalent) – in progress considered with defined completion timeline.
• Strong clinical competence, leadership ability, and effective collaboration skills.

Preferred:

• Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• NRP Instructor certification.
• Critical Care Transport experience.
