Position Summary
The Gym Floor Supervisor oversees daily operations on the gym floor, ensuring a safe, clean, and customer-focused environment. This role includes supervising staff, maintaining facility standards, enforcing policies, and supporting member engagement and retention.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of gym-floor staff, including trainers, attendants, and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain a visible presence on the gym floor to ensure member safety, proper equipment use, and compliance with facility policies.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure timely reporting and resolution of equipment issues and facility hazards.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to staff; assist with onboarding and periodic training sessions.
- Manage shift scheduling to ensure adequate coverage during peak and off-peak hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
- Respond to and document incidents, emergencies, and member concerns; administer basic first aid or coordinate emergency response as needed.
- Support membership engagement by addressing member inquiries on the floor and escalating sales or service opportunities to the front desk or management team.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of workout areas, equipment, and locker rooms in accordance with facility standards.
- Collaborate with management to implement policies, promotions, and facility improvements that enhance member experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in exercise science, recreation management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a fitness facility role; supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse members and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities, make decisions under pressure, and maintain composure in emergency situations.
- Basic familiarity with common fitness equipment maintenance needs and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with staff scheduling and performance management.
- Certifications such as personal training or group fitness instruction.
- Knowledge of membership management software and basic point-of-sale operations.
- Prior experience working in a high-volume commercial gym or health club.
