Purpose of the position
WEA has launched a unique street medicine program featuring mental health, substance use disorder treatment, and infectious disease management (in addition to primary care) in Riverside County in and around the Palm Springs area. The most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness have likely been failed by institutions many times in their lives, and their mistrust of authorities, institutions, and individual care providers may represent an attempt at self- protection that, over time, becomes a barrier to accessing care and resources that could improve their lives.
 
As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with strong experience working with special populations, the position provides healthcare to the unsheltered homeless in the Palm Springs/Indio/Coachella Valley (where there are &gt;1000 unhoused). This position will also provide care to youth and families living on the streets or locations not meant for habitation such as cars, vans, tents, and makeshifts. Role includes assisting individuals in adopting healthy behaviors, with the ultimate goal of improving health disparities, evaluating and examining patients, diagnosing conditions, and providing treatments for symptoms and conditions.
The APP is responsible for the mental and physical well-being of the community by advocating for health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and education. We provide leading podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists with operational support so they can spend their time focused on growing their business and delivering exceptional patient care.
 We have an immediate need to hire a qualified Podiatrist to join our team in Palm Springs, CA. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Podiatrist provides routine care and referral podiatric services to patients as follows:
<ul>
<li>Examines patients’ legs and feet to determine and diagnose diseases and/or care needs.</li>
<li>Treats bone, muscle, and joint disorders affecting the feet and ankles.</li>
<li>Performs wound care management.</li>
<li>Diagnoses diseases and deformities of the foot and ankle using medical histories, physical examinations, x-rays, and laboratory test results.</li>
<li>Prescribes medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery as appropriate.</li>
<li>Advises patients about treatment plans and foot and ankle care techniques to help with prevention of future problems.</li>
<li>Provides education/consultation to patients, family, and health care team members.</li>
<li>Provides patients with health promotions and preventive medication.</li>
<li>Properly maintains appropriate medical records on assigned patients, including routine updates.</li>
</ul>
Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Ability to observe, assess, and accurately record symptoms, reactions, and progress.</li>
<li>Full knowledge and understanding of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.</li>
<li>Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities.</li>
<li>Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.</li>
<li>Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills to ensure effective working relationships with diverse patients, colleagues, and vendors.</li>
<li>Possesses a good understanding of effective time management and practices such to ensure scheduling as well as administrative requirements are met.</li>
<li>PC proficient with Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, EMR and various databases.</li>
<li>Able to provide proof of legal eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.</li>
<li>Ability to successfully pass an in-depth background investigation, including credit check and with a clean DMV report.</li>
</ul>
Education and Experience:
<ul>
<li>Current active license as a Podiatrist in the State of California.</li>
<li>Doctoral degree in Podiatric Medicine from an Accredited School of Podiatry.</li>
<li>Completion of an accredited podiatric residency program.</li>
<li>Minimum of three (3) years applicable professional experience.</li>
</ul>
Compensation / Benefits:
<ul>
<li>Competitive physician salary program with a base ($125,000 - $150,000) +comp. plan (level depends on applicable experience)</li>
<li>Benefit eligibility for FT employees working 30+ hours weekly begins first of the month following 30 days of employment.</li>
<li>Eligibility to participate in our 401(k) program begins first of the month following 60 days of employment (program has match up to 4% depending on employee contributions.)</li>
